"Representing the USA is an incredible honor. Every time I put on the jersey, I feel a lot of pride because I know I am representing something bigger than myself."
Meet Christian DeAngelis
Team: USA Field Hockey
Position: Midfield
Stick: Osaka Pro Tour 100 – Proto Bow
"I was introduced to field hockey in 2013 through the Grow the Game initiative at the National Field Hockey Festival in Florida. They were actively encouraging boys to try the sport, which caught my attention. My sister was already playing as well, so that made it easier for me to give it a shot. I decided to try it that winter, and from there I just kept building on it and growing into the sport."
His biggest inspiration outside the sport: Cristiano Ronaldo. "The way he pushes himself every day and always looks for ways to improve is something I really respect. It is not just about talent, but about consistency and mindset, and that is something I try to apply in my own career."
What the Game Means to Him
"Field hockey is what I love to do, and it plays a big role in my life. It has given me the chance to meet a lot of different people and build strong connections. It has also allowed me to travel and experience places I probably would not have seen otherwise. It is something that keeps me motivated and gives me a sense of purpose."
On pulling on the USA jersey: "It is also a reminder of all the work and sacrifices that went into getting there, which makes it even more meaningful."
On the Field
DeAngelis counts winning silver at the 2025 Pan American Cup as his proudest achievement to date. "We put in a lot of work as a team leading up to that tournament, especially over the summer. It had been a while since the team reached that level, so it felt like a big step forward and a reward for all the effort we put in together."
His style: "Simple and efficient, combined with a high work rate. I try to do the basics really well and stay consistent throughout the game. I focus on making smart decisions and contributing wherever I can to help the team."
And what fans notice first? "I think my athleticism is what stands out the most. It helps me cover a lot of ground and stay active in both attack and defense. That energy and physical presence are probably what fans notice first."

Routines On and Off the Field
"Before games, I like to listen to house music in my room to get into the right mindset and stay focused. It helps me relax while also getting energized. After the game, I keep things simple with a protein shake to start recovery and refuel."
A typical day: morning training at the team's centralized location, work in the afternoon, and unwinding in the evening by cooking dinner and recharging for the next day. Outside of hockey, he stays active in the gym or on the golf and disc golf course, and unwinds with cooking, movies, and Xbox. "Simple things make me happy — listening to music, eating good food, and spending time on my Xbox. Those moments help me relax and enjoy time outside of the sport."
Staying at the top of his game comes down to the unglamorous work: "A big part of it for me is prehab. Staying mobile and taking care of my body helps me avoid injuries and stay consistent. I also focus on maintaining good habits day to day so I can perform at a high level over time."
Looking Ahead
"My main goal is to become an Olympian. That has always been a dream of mine, and it is something I am working toward every day. I want to keep improving and put myself in the best position to reach that level."
On where the sport is headed: "I think the game will continue to get faster and more dynamic. With so many creative players coming through, the style of play is evolving as well. I also believe the sport will continue to grow in visibility and attract more fans."
The Osaka Partnership
"It means a lot to be part of an organization that genuinely supports its athletes. Having access to high quality equipment and being backed by a brand that cares about performance makes a real difference. It is something I take pride in."
"Osaka has given me the support and environment to focus fully on my development. Knowing I have reliable equipment and backing allows me to concentrate on improving and chasing my goals."
What sealed the partnership: "It has always been a well known and respected brand in the sport. On top of that, the people behind it made a strong impression on me. That combination made it an easy decision to work together."

Advice and Legacy
"Nothing happens overnight. It is important to stay patient and focus on improving a little bit every day. Consistency over time is what really makes the difference."
On growing the game: "I want to help grow the game, especially for young boys in the USA, and show them how much the sport has to offer. If they can see how fun it is and what opportunities it can create, that can make a big impact."
How he wants to be remembered: "As someone who was part of a group that helped push USA men's field hockey forward and contributed to its growth."
And to his younger self: "Keep putting in the work and trust the process. At that stage, you do not fully realize how much the sport can shape your life, so just stay committed and enjoy the journey."
